Bungaban Wind has shared its social licence commitments under its Capacity Investment Scheme Agreement with the Australian Government, outlining long-term benefits for local and First Nations communities, workers and regional suppliers.
The CISA allows the project to expand local training, workforce development and supply chain participation, providing greater certainty for local business and helping deliver project benefits sooner. It also includes binding commitments around benefit sharing with First Nations Peoples and local communities.
Key commitments include a community benefit framework shared by Western Downs Regional Council and Banana Shire Council, alongside a separate $200,000 annual community benefit fund. Shared Benefits Agreements with Traditional Owners and dedicated First Nations sponsorships will support key priorities, while a $650,000 Business Capacity Fund will help regional and First Nations businesses participate in the project supply chain. A further $500,000 Biosecurity Initiative Fund will support a five-year program developed with landholders, councils, agricultural organisations and environmental specialists.
Further commitments support local procurement, training and workforce participation, as well as First Nations employment, contracting and community partnerships. Local content targets will be supported through requirements built into major contracts and targeted investment to strengthen regional supplier capability.
The social licence commitments sit alongside the project’s broader regional contribution. Bungaban Wind is expected to add around $500 million to the regional economy through employment, supply and contracting opportunities, and create more than 1,000 jobs at peak construction, with local content requirements built into major contracts.
